Domesticity

I often think about the places where I used to live. I remember only fragments: random images, shapes formed by shadows, squares of light instead of windows, dusted patterns of worn down carpets, cracked tiles, flamboyant forms of orchids on the kitchen table.

Domesticity project is about foretelling memories of my daily life in Santiago de Chile, in a rented apartment without much personal character. I photograph mundane moments, serendipity of light and shadow, daily routines that I want to remember. I record the complexity of living in a simple, temporary space.

The quotidian ambience is changed and challenged by my imagination, accidental shots, daily events. My camera is always within reach, ready to remember what otherwise would be forgotten. Repetitive pantomime of shadows entering and leaving the place, passage of light, particles of dust.

Focusing on beauty found in the nearby world is a way of appreciation of being alive. Creation of abstract images is a therapy to overcome the terror of thoughts. I find peace in simple functionality. I am aware of details around me. I have time to examine them.
